2026 presidential election in Benin: the BR names Mariam Chabi Talata as Romuald Wadagni’s running mate

Meeting in ordinary session on August 31, the Executive Secretariat of the National Executive Bureau had been mandated to designate a figure capable of standing alongside candidate Wadagni. After weighing the criteria, the profile of Mrs. Talata, a woman of action and conviction, was chosen to embody the party’s ambitions in this new political phase.

The career of this former teacher, who went on to become a Pedagogical Inspector, then Director of General Secondary Education, a Member of Parliament, First Vice-President of the National Assembly in 2019, and finally Vice-President of the Republic since 2021, was highlighted. Her experience and rigor are seen as major assets for this presidential ticket.

A duo in continuity with the Rupture reforms

According to the BR, the Wadagni–Chabi Talata tandem is in keeping with the logic of the reforms launched since 2016 under the impetus of President Patrice Talon. The stated goal is to accelerate the country’s socio-economic development and consolidate the achievements of the current administration.

The Executive Secretariat also called for a massive mobilization of party members and supporters to secure victory in April 2026. “More united, stronger to build Benin!” reads the statement released at the close of the meeting.
