With ‘Chopping Mountain’, Ibibio Sound Machine Releases Their Sixth Album
The London-based collective led by Nigerian singer Eno Williams released a nine-track album on September 11, complemented by a bonus track on the digital and CD editions.
Ibibio Sound Machine released their sixth album, Chopping Mountain, on Friday, September 11, 2026. The London-based collective, led by Nigerian singer Eno Williams, features nine tracks on the vinyl edition, while the digital and CD versions include ten.
The album opens with Burning in Lagos and continues with the title track, When You Want to Dance, and Concept of Love. The tracklist also includes Return to Sender, which was released ahead of the album, as well as Menso, Love, Kukuru, and River Don’t Rush.
Nigerian keyboardist and singer Dele Sosimi features on Give Me Peace, a bonus track exclusive to the digital and CD editions. Chopping Mountain was produced by Max Grunhard, the saxophonist and co-founder of the group.
This marks Max Grunhard’s return to producing an Ibibio Sound Machine album since Doko Mien, which was released in 2019. The collective subsequently collaborated with Hot Chip on Electricity in 2022, and then with Ross Orton for Pull the Rope in 2024.
Formed in London around Eno Williams and Max Grunhard, Ibibio Sound Machine blends West African funk and highlife with disco, post-punk, and electronic textures. The group embraces themes of solidarity, unity, and resistance in this new album.
Chopping Mountain is available on vinyl, CD, and for download. Upcoming dates will take the group to the UK and Ireland starting in October, followed by a concert scheduled at Hasard Ludique in Paris on April 14, 2027.
