UP The Renewal: setting the criteria and modalities for the designation of village and neighborhood chiefs.
In a directive dated August 10, 2026, and signed by its president Joseph Djogbénou, the Progressive Union for Renewal (UP-R) has framed the process for selecting its members to serve as village chiefs (CV) and neighborhood chiefs (CQ).

To be eligible for these roles under the party’s banner, members must be part of the competence cell of the concerned village or neighborhood and demonstrate a proven political commitment within the UP-R.
Applicants must also be reputable individuals of good moral standing, effectively residing in the targeted locality, enjoy their civil and civic rights, and be up to date with their contributions.
The designation of current chiefs is preferred if they have not committed any wrongdoing towards the party, and the party president reserves the right to reappoint certain officials in office who joined the party before the process began.
Procedure and Timeline for Submission
The process excludes direct individual candidacies to the national bodies. Subsection offices submit the files to section offices, which check compliance with the criteria before compiling a summary document.
Sections have a deadline from August 15 to September 15, 2026, to send these summaries to the party’s Directorate. The final decision will be made across the national territory by the National Executive Directorate (DEN), expanded to include members of the electoral district coordination.
