Togo: 26 candidacies rejected for July 2025 municipal elections
The Supreme Court of Togo, through its administrative chamber, has published the results of the review of the applications submitted for the municipal elections scheduled for July 17, 2025. Out of the 520 cases submitted by the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI), 26 have been invalidated.

These rejections resulted from the detection of several irregularities. These specifically include lists where the number of candidates does not meet the required thresholds, instances of double registration, multiple people assigned the same voter card numbers and nominations that did not meet the Togolese nationality conditions. Other rejections are linked to the lack of payment of the required deposit, or incompatible age or occupation.
With the official validation of the competing lists, the electoral process enters a new phase: that of the campaign. This will open on July 1st and will last for two weeks.
In preparation for the ballot, the CENI conducted a lottery on June 14 for the positioning of the lists on the voting ballots. Some of the electoral material, notably the indelible ink, has already been received.
