Tems: “Being an artist has changed my life”
Having become a global star, Tems opens up about the profound changes her career has brought, hinting at an evolution toward greater openness and vulnerability.
The Nigerian singer Tems has spoken about the deep impact of her artistic career on her personal life. At 31, the artist explains that before starting in music, she described herself as “hyper-independent,” with a tendency to keep others at a distance. An attitude she gradually learned to move beyond thanks to her artistic journey. In an interview with Doose Of Society, she states: “Being an artist has changed my life. Many people know me. It has made me grow; I had to shed many habits that held me back, notably my hyper-independence and that tendency to push people away. »

She continues: “I’ve now learned to embrace love, to be open, free to give love and to be vulnerable without feeling uncomfortable.” Launched in 2018 with her first single Mr Rebel, Tems has experienced a meteoric rise, notably thanks to the success of the track Essence, in collaboration with Wizkid, which introduced her to international audiences. Since then, she has multiplied prestigious collaborations with Drake, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, and J. Cole, while establishing herself as one of the major figures in the Afrobeats scene. Recently, she has reached a new milestone by becoming the first Nigerian artist to surpass 40 million monthly listeners on Spotify, confirming her status as a global star.
