South Africa: Malema vows to combat corruption in Mangaung
In Bloemfontein and then in the Northern Cape, Julius Malema outlined the EFF's municipal priorities ahead of the November 4 local elections, including the fight against corruption, water, electricity, and employment.
The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, promised on Saturday, September 12, in Bloemfontein, to prioritize the fight against corruption and the improvement of municipal services in Mangaung ahead of the South African local elections on November 4.
During the launch of the EFF’s provincial manifesto in the Free State, Malema highlighted water supply, electricity, and unemployment as key issues to address. He also stated that a municipality led by his party would hire based on qualifications and combat corruption.
The EFF leader then traveled to the Northern Cape for a second provincial launch. There, he reiterated the party’s nine pillars and emphasized the provision of public services, healthcare facilities, and economic opportunities for youth.
The party announced on August 28 that it had submitted 4,474 candidacies to the Electoral Commission to cover all wards across the country. According to the EFF, these lists include 1,398 candidates aged 18 to 35 and 1,725 women.
At the national launch of its municipal manifesto in July, the EFF designated Sam Matiase as its candidate for the mayoralty of Mangaung. The party identifies the upgrading of water and electricity networks, sanitation, employment, and local governance as central themes of its campaign.
According to SABC, Julius Malema is set to continue the campaign on Sunday in Gauteng. The South African local elections are scheduled for November 4, 2026.
