The legal noose is tightening around Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian midfielder now faces new charges after authorization by Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service. These charges add to those he already faces in English justice.

Already charged with several alleged counts of rape and sexual assault, the player had pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing at the Southwark Crown Court in September. The alleged offenses date back to 2021-2022, when he was a regular starter for a Premier League club based north of London.

Formally charged just a few days after the end of his contract in England, at the end of June, Partey is due to appear on March 13 before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court as part of the new charges. Placed under judicial supervision, he remains free under strict conditions: prohibition on contacting the complainants and an obligation to notify authorities at least 24 hours before any travel abroad.

Sport-wise, the former Arsenal player has bounced back in Spain, where he signed with Villarreal CF as a free agent. He remains eligible to be called up by Ghana’s Black Stars, who are involved in preparations for the 2026 World Cup. The trial has been scheduled for November 2. In the meantime, the proceedings are moving forward, and the charges will need to be examined on the merits by British justice.
