Premier League: “Arsenal could win the title this season”, Guardiola
The Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, admitted on Friday that Arsenal could become “very hard to catch” in the title race if the London club were to open up a gap at the top of the Premier League.
The Citizens, however, have an immediate chance to close the gap: if they win at Newcastle on Saturday night, the difference with the Gunners would be reduced to one point, ahead of the North London derby which will see Arsenal host Tottenham on Sunday.
In a press conference, Guardiola stressed the importance of staying close to the leader:
“Arsenal are an outstanding team. If they get a lead in the table, it will be difficult to catch up with them”, he warned. He added: “It’s the same scenario as last year with Liverpool.” Last season, the Reds finished ten points clear of Arsenal.
