Parliament: MP Habibou Worou Koubou questions the government over the arrest of one of his colleagues
In a question-and-answer addressed to the government, Habibou Worou Koubou, a deputy from the opposition party Les Démocrates, is requesting clarification on the arrest of his colleague…

The latter was arrested by the Republican Police and held in custody at the criminal investigation unit for praising/advocating a coup d’État.
In his query, the parliamentarian draws attention to the arrest and detention of a deputy who nevertheless enjoys parliamentary immunity.
He requests precise clarification on the legal and factual grounds for this arrest, particularly with regard to the principle of parliamentary immunity enshrined in the Constitution.
Through a series of questions addressed to the executive, Habibou Worou Koubou seeks to know whether a formal link has been established between the parliamentarian concerned and the alleged perpetrators of the attempted coup.
He also questions the government about the characterization of “flagrant délit” applied in this case, as well as the concrete elements that led to that assessment.
The deputy further questions the notion of “apologie de coup d’État” mentioned in the case and asks the government to clarify its content and legal basis.
Moreover, Habibou Worou Koubou questions the authorities’ choice to concentrate prosecutions on one deputy, rather than to provide more information on the progress of investigations targeting the direct perpetrators and any possible instigators of the attempted destabilization.
The government is now expected to provide official answers before the national legislature.
