The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) made a point of putting an end to the speculation surrounding Eric Chelle’s future. Courted after the impressive run of the Super Eagles at AFCON 2025, the 44-year-old coach will not leave his post, according to president Ibrahim Gusau.

The leader recalled that the former Mali coach is still under contract with the NFF for one more season and that no early departure is planned. “We still have a one-year contract with Eric (Chelle) and, whatever happens, he must wait for it to expire,” Gusau said, cited by SoccerNet.

Determined to preserve staff stability, the federation does not want to disrupt its coach. We don’t want to distract him, because we understand that he enjoys working with Nigeria, he added.

For Gusau, the issue goes beyond money: “It’s not about money, but whether he’ll achieve his professional goals.” A clear message at a time when several national teams have shown interest.
