France: 525 students found with a knife hidden in their bag in less than a year.
Between March and December 2025, French authorities highlighted a concerning situation in the country’s schools: 525 students were found in possession of a knife hidden in their bag, during checks conducted around and near schools and middle schools.
These figures come from the joint checks carried out by the Ministry of National Education and the law enforcement agencies. According to authorities, about 1,500 student bags were checked each month during the period in question, as part of an enhanced security scheme for school premises.
The release of these data comes amid rising tensions around school safety, following several incidents involving bladed weapons in schools in France.
Facing this situation, the Minister of National Education announced an increase in checks and the implementation of strict disciplinary measures for students found in possession of a weapon.
The authorities’ official objective is to intercept these dangerous objects as much as possible and to deter any attempt to introduce weapons into schools, involving both education authorities and security forces.
