Europa League: Yusuf involved in all three goals as Ferencváros wins 3-1 at Celtic

Bamidele Yusuf played a crucial role in all three goals for Ferencváros during their 3-1 victory over Celtic on Thursday, September 17, in Glasgow, marking the opening match of the Europa League. The Nigerian initiated the scoring before assisting Kristoffer Zachariassen and then Daniel Arzani for the subsequent goals.

In the 20th minute, a ball sent by Yusuf was deflected into the net by defender Liam Scales. After Mika Baur equalized in the 43rd minute, Yusuf set up Kristoffer Zachariassen, who scored with a backheel to restore the lead for the Hungarians in stoppage time of the first half.

Two minutes after the restart, the 25-year-old forward found Daniel Arzani, whose curled shot from outside the box made it 3-1. Ferencváros maintained this advantage until the final whistle.

Celtic enjoyed 63% possession and attempted 16 shots compared to 14 for Ferencváros, but the visitors managed to hit the target six times, while the Scots managed four. UEFA noted that the Hungarian club secured their seventh victory since the start of their European qualifying rounds this season.

Yusuf has been with Ferencváros since August 2025. The Hungarian club signed him after a season with FK Vojvodina, during which the Nigerian scored 21 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, according to his official introduction.

Ferencváros will host Viktoria Plzeň on October 15 for the second match of the league phase of the Europa League, according to the UEFA schedule.
