This field visit aimed to evaluate the progression of coastal erosion beyond the Sèmè pipeline and to lay the groundwork for a sustainable strategic response to preserve infrastructure and the local ecosystem.

The mission began with a working session bringing together experts and officials from various institutions specialized in coastal zone management. The objective set by the minister was to cross-reference scientific data and administrative expertise in order to establish an accurate mapping of the most threatened areas, prioritizing fact-based analysis to guide public action.

After this orientation meeting, the delegation visited the WAPCO Niger-Benin facilities, the company responsible for the crude oil export pipeline.

The minister made three strategic stops in areas of significant coastline regression, where he was able to witness the seriousness of the rising waters and engage directly with the affected populations, particularly the fishing community established along the coast.
