Ademola Lookman chose to play it down after the tense exchange with Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s comfortable 4-0 win over Mozambique on Monday night in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 round of 16.

Partnered on the Super Eagles’ attacking front, the two men stood out from the first half. Lookman set up Osimhen’s two goals, while both found the net before the break. A moment of tension did, however, appear when the Atalanta forward chose to shoot rather than pass to his partner, provoking an irritated reaction from the Napoli striker.

A few minutes later, Victor Osimhen asked to be substituted, ceasing his forward runs and turning to the head coach Eric Chelle. A gesture that fueled speculation after the match.

In the mixed zone, Ademola Lookman quickly downplayed the incident. “ I don’t think it’s really important. The main thing is that the team won 4-0.“, he said. Before adding, with admiration: “ Vic is my number one. He’s a very high-level striker, a world-class player. The rest doesn’t matter.” A unifying message, reflecting a Nigerian squad firmly launched toward the quarterfinals.
