Benin – Presidential Election 2026: Bertin Koovi Displays His Ambitions and Invokes Divine Will
The president of the “Talon Continue” Dynamic and active member of the Republican Bloc, Bertin Koovi, held a public press conference on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 in Cotonou.
It was an opportunity for him to discuss several current topics, but especially to candidly mention his presidential intentions in the event of Patrice Talon leaving in 2026.
Speaking in front of a gathering of journalists and supporters, Bertin Koovi stated that he felt ready to assume the highest responsibilities of the State, provided that it fulfills a divine plan.
“Power is not a conquest, but a divine mission”, he affirmed, quoting both verses from the Quran and passages from the Bible to support his spiritual vision of politics.
He emphasized that succession at the top of the state should not be the result of a fierce struggle but a harmony with the will of God.
The one who claims a high mobilizing capability within local communities clearly expressed his ambition to succeed Patrice Talon, while declaring himself ready to step aside if the divine plan decided otherwise. To him, the current president is an exceptional man, “a channel between God and the destiny of Benin”, and his decision will weigh heavily in the choice of the future leader.
Bertin Koovi also invited the people of Benin to pray and fast, so that divine will can guide the country in the direction to go after 2026.
While displaying his loyalty to Patrice Talon, whom he regards as an inspired and providential statesman, the speaker urged his supporters to respectfully and vigilantly question the president’s intentions regarding the end of his term. He is convinced that if Talon decided to pass the torch, it would be done consciously and with respect for the country’s greater interest.
This statement, interspersed with calls to faith and humility, marks an important step in Bertin Koovi’s political positioning. It also lays the groundwork for a succession speech that, if it finds resonance within the presidential movement, could make him one of the serious contenders for the presidency. Eight months from the electoral deadline, the political scene in Benin seems to be opening up to new balances, in an atmosphere where faith, loyalty, and ambition intertwine in a unique way.
