Candide Azannaï has taken a skeptical stance regarding President Patrice Talon’s recent statements. Responding to the interview granted by the head of state to Jeune Afrique, the former delegate minister—now a prominent opposition figure—has questioned the sincerity of Talon’s remarks.

According to comments reported by L’Investigateur, Candide Azannaï stated that “the purpose of rhetoric is not truth, but persuasion—even through lies and manipulation.”

He equates the interview to a diversionary tactic and expresses serious doubts about the truthfulness of the Beninese president’s claims.

As a reminder, during that interview, Patrice Talon addressed several current issues, including his refusal to run for a third term, the choice of his successor, and the matter of the release of Reckya Madougou and Joël Aïvo.

He also spoke about his plans after leaving office and the case of Olivier Boko, who has been accused of attempting to destabilize the current regime. A statement that, according to Candide Azannaï, should be approached with caution.
