He says his resignation is not recent. According to him, it dates back three months and predates two major events: handing over his endorsement to the party president and his negative vote against the revision of the Constitution.

If he did not make his resignation public in agreement with the party president, it was to avoid weakening Les Démocrates at a sensitive moment.

Basile Ahossi stresses his personal integrity. He describes himself as a man of principle, saying he has never betrayed anyone during his political career. He refuses to be grouped with the others who have resigned in recent days, notably MP Michel Sodjinou. He believes he does not belong to that category.

Although his resignation is now public, Basile Ahossi refuses to provide explanations about his departure, saying he wants to preserve the party’s balance.

With the party engaged in preparing for the upcoming legislative elections, he says he wants to avoid any controversy that could harm the political party.

Basile Ahossi hopes that Les Démocrates will win a significant number of seats before calmly addressing the deeper reasons for his departure. According to him, “the debate can take place in due course,” once the electoral period is over.
