AFCON 2027: CAF remains on course despite rumors of postponement.
Meeting this Friday in Dar es-Salaam, the CAF confirmed that AFCON 2027 would go ahead despite rumors of a postponement, while also announcing a major reform of the calendar starting in 2028.

The idea of a postponement proved short-lived. While the Guardian claimed on Thursday that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations could be moved to 2028 due to presumed delays in the preparations by the host trio Kenya–Uganda–Tanzania, the CAF quickly doused the fire.
Meeting this Friday at the general assembly in Dar es-Salaam, CAF president Patrice Motsepe firmly denied any calendar change. The 2027 edition is confirmed for the planned dates, as is that of 2028. The South African leader acknowledged the existence of logistical challenges, notably with infrastructure and pitches, but sought to reassure about the host countries’ ability to be ready on time.
The head of African football also confirmed a major evolution of the continental calendar: from 2028, AFCON will adopt a four-year cycle. In parallel, an African Nations League will be launched, organized every two years by geographic zones. A double strategic shift that reshapes the future of African competitions, without calling into question the 2027 deadline.
