The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed the Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT), which was contesting Tanzania’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The appeal concerned an irregularity related to a jersey number during the qualifying match on 19 November 2024, won 1-0 by Tanzania. Guinea argued that a Tanzanian player had worn a different number than the one listed on the match sheet, which it said created an unfair “tactical advantage,” and asked for a victory by forfeit (3-0).

The CAS ultimately considered it a “simple administrative error” without sporting consequence, thus confirming CAF’s initial decision to keep Tanzania in the competition. The Taifa Stars will compete in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda. Their opening match is scheduled against the Super Eagles on Tuesday 23 December in Fez.
