“Your talent has disappeared, you’re nothing but an ordinary player now,” Franck Leboeuf told Salah.
Having a tough season with Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has seen his output drop drastically, to the point of drawing harsh criticism from former defender Frank Leboeuf.
Frank Leboeuf did not mince words about Mohamed Salah. The former Chelsea defender believes that the Egyptian winger is going through a worrying period and questions his current level. Arriving at Liverpool in the summer of 2017 from AS Roma, Salah has established himself as one of the Reds’ key players of the modern era. In nine seasons at Anfield, he has posted impressive statistics: 251 goals and 120 assists in 427 appearances in all competitions.
But this season’s spell contrasts strongly with his usual standards. The Egyptian international has only six goals and seven assists in 26 appearances. Worse, he’s gone eight Premier League games without a goal, his last one dating back to November against Aston Villa. He had, however, found the net in the narrow victory over Sunderland (1-0) on Wednesday.
On ESPN, Leboeuf was particularly critical: « Even when he was scoring, you could sometimes see awkward movements. This season, you hardly see anything else. He has gone from an exceptional player to an ordinary one. Where has his talent gone? » Last season, Salah again tallied 34 goals and 23 assists in 52 matches, including 29 league goals in Arne Slot’s first season in England. A striking contrast.
