“The greatest of all time,” Lamine Yamal crowns Lionel Messi
At 18, the young prodigy of FC Barcelona hides neither his admiration for Lionel Messi nor his eagerness at the thought of facing the Argentine legend at the Finalissima 2026. While praising the immense career of the Inter Miami captain, Lamine Yamal says he wants to carve out his own path, far from any comparison.

Lamine Yamal did not hesitate to be clear: for him, Lionel Messi is simply the greatest player in history. Interviewed by CBS’s “60 Minutes”, the young winger of FC Barcelona also discussed the prospect of a duel against the Inter Miami captain at the next Finalissima, which will see Spain face Argentina in March 2026.
At only 18, the Spanish international shows admiring respect for the Argentine legend. “I consider Messi the best footballer of all time, and he also knows that I’m a good player,” he said. Yamal nevertheless insists on wanting to follow his own path: “There will always be respect between us. I’m not trying to be him, nor to play like him, nor to wear his number. I want to remain myself. ” Lionel Messi, for his part, remains the most decorated player in history, with 47 trophies won over the course of an exceptional career.
