Ramadan is a period of fasting meticulously observed by Muslims during the holy month. However, there are certain prohibitions that must be strictly adhered to.

Ramadan, the sacred month of fasting for Muslims, enforces strict rules that the faithful are obliged to follow. These prohibitions aim to preserve the purity of this spiritual practice. Here are some key ones that must be respected to observe the fast correctly.

Prohibition of Drinking

During the fast, Muslims must refrain from consuming any liquids, including water, from dawn to dusk. For oral care, using a Siwak is recommended to avoid the ingestion of water. Taking baths and showers is allowed, as long as nothing is swallowed.

Prohibition of Tobacco and Illicit Substances

Ramadan reinforces the ban on smoking, consuming alcohol, which is prohibited in Islam, or any form of drugs during the daytime fast.

Prohibition of Sexual Relations

Fasting also involves abstaining from all sexual acts and masturbation from dawn to dusk. Sexual activity is only permitted after the daily fast is broken.

Prohibition of Obscene Speech

Insulting language, lying, and aggressive behaviors are forbidden during Ramadan. In case of conflict, it is advisable to remind oneself of being in a state of fasting.

Deliberate Vomiting

Intentionally causing oneself to vomit is strictly forbidden, as this cancels the day’s fast and necessitates making it up later.

Makeup

While the use of cosmetics does not invalidate the fast, discretion is advised. The application of kohl may be tolerated, and fragrances, preferably non-alcoholic, are not forbidden.

Menstruation

Having one’s menstrual cycle interrupts the fast for women, who must then suspend their practice and make up for the missed days following their menstrual period and before the next Ramadan. The reasons for this pause vary according to cultural interpretations and family traditions.

These rules aim to enhance the spirituality and self-discipline of the faithful during the month of Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of devotion and purification during this sacred time.
