Saudi Arabia is sending its representative to the Miss Universe beauty contest for the first time in history. The event will take place in September 2024 in Mexico.

A number of barriers have been lifted in Saudi Arabia, notably including the authorization for women to drive cars, obtain passports and travel without the consent of a male guardian, and the requirement to wear a hijab and abaya. It is against this backdrop that the country will be represented for the first time at the prestigious Miss Universe competition.

Indeed, the representative announced the good news via a post on her Instagram account. “I am honored to participate in the Miss Universe International 2024 contest. This is the first participation of Saudi Arabia in the Miss Universe competition,” she expressed joyfully. She also expressed her gratitude for the support she has received: “My heart is full of gratitude for all my friends around the world. This support has made me happy. I hope to live up to expectations, and I am delighted to be the first young Saudi woman to represent my country (I love you).

Rumy Al-Qahtani, proudly representing Saudi Arabia, will be on stage Saturday, September 28, to take part in the prestigious 73rd edition of Miss Universe, which will be held in Mexico. With a radiant smile, she dazzled in her sparkling attire and was crowned with a shining tiara, also proudly bearing the flag of her country.

It should be noted that the difference between Miss Universe and Miss World is that there is no swimsuit category; instead, contestants present traditional costumes that celebrate the national attire of their respective countries.

Who is Rumy Al-Qahtani?

Rumy Al-Qahtani, a 27-year-old model who is fluent in English, French, and Arabic and has a degree in dental medicine, hails from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. She is experienced in beauty contests worldwide, having been elected Miss Saudi Arabia, Miss Middle East, Miss Peace in the Arab World, and Miss Woman (Saudi Arabia). More recently, she participated in Miss and Mrs. Global Asian in Malaysia.
