Liverpool: Real Madrid abandons pursuit of Ibrahima Konaté
After long targeting Liverpool’s French defender Ibrahima Konaté, Real Madrid has withdrawn from negotiations, while the Reds continue talks to extend their player’s contract.

Real Madrid has finally decided to abandon the pursuit of Ibrahima Konaté, according to Athletic Football. The Madrid club, long interested in Liverpool’s French defender, officially informed the Reds’ leaders that it was withdrawing from talks.
The fourteen-time European champions had closely followed Konaté’s development, who emerged at RB Leipzig before making his mark in the Premier League. The 25-year-old was even listed among the priorities to strengthen Real’s defense in 2026. But Real’s management now seems to be turning to other options.
On Liverpool’s side, this decision brings an end to exchanges with Real. The English club now wants to continue its sporting project around the French international, with discussions over a contract extension currently underway. An offer is said to have been made, but no final agreement has yet been reached.
