CRIET: 48 months of firm imprisonment requested against a young person charged with sextortion.
The special prosecution near the Court of repression of economic offenses and terrorism (CRIET) was heavy-handed this Thursday, June 18, 2026. A young man in his twenties is facing a request for 48 months of imprisonment and a fine of one million CFA francs.

Charged with fraud through a computer system, the accused is at the center of a sordid case of blackmail and the distribution of intimate videos on social media.
The method of operation revealed during the hearing shows a well-oiled scheme. The accused pretended to be a woman online to contact his victim, another young man. After seducing him and leading him into a virtual romantic relationship, he managed to convince him to send intimate videos.
Once he had the images, the accused turned to blackmail. Faced with the victim’s categorical refusal to meet his financial demands, the blackmailer executed his threats by publishing the compromising footage online.
The truth came out thanks to the victim’s colleagues, who stumbled upon the videos and alerted him. Following a complaint, the National Center for Digital Investigations (CNIN) proceeded with technical tracing of the broadcasting accounts, which led directly to the accused. The analysis and extraction of data from his mobile phone ultimately confirmed his cybercriminal activities related to sextortion.
Summoned to the stand, the young man pleaded guilty and admitted to all the charges against him. In his indictment, the deputy special prosecutor emphasized that the accused has been consistent and has fully cooperated with justice since the preliminary investigation. Nevertheless, the magistrate requested the Court to keep him under preventive detention, proposing a sentence of four years of firm detention to address these digital misdeeds. The decision will be announced on July 30, 2026, the date on which the accused will know his fate.
