The U20 Amazons’ campaign in the 2025 UFOA-B Cup began with a setback. Facing Ghana’s Black Princesses, the title-holders, the Beninese lost 0-2 on Friday at the omnisports stadium in Adjohoun, in the competition’s opening match.

Abdoulaye Ouzérou’s players struggled to get into the game, suffering their opponents’ technical and physical dominance. Unsurprisingly, the Ghanaians opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a Beninese defense in difficulty. Despite some attacking attempts, Benin went into the break trailing 1-0.

After the break, the Amazons looked better. The changes made by the coach brought a burst of energy, but attacking clarity was lacking. Ghana, more clinical, doubled the lead in the 77th minute, definitively sealing the match.

Benin therefore logically bowed to the reigning champions, in a match that will serve as a lesson for the rest of the tournament. Rachidatou Moumouni’s teammates must react immediately in their next outing, scheduled for Sunday, November 9 against Nigeria, another giant of the sub-region. A major challenge for the young Amazons, already with their backs to the wall in this UFOA-B U20 Cup.
