Benin: Ismath Bio Tchané Mamadou reappointed as head of the Court of Accounts
The president of the Court of Auditors, Ismath Bio Tchané Mamadou, took the oath this Thursday, May 7, 2026 at the Palais de la Marina, for a second five-year term. The ceremony, presided over by the head of state Patrice Talon, highlighted the stakes of public-finances oversight and the ongoing governance reforms undertaken since the institution’s creation.
Under the customary oath, the magistrate reaffirmed her commitment to uphold the Constitution and to preserve the secrecy of deliberations. She also recalled the neutrality and independence inherent to her function, essential to ensuring the credibility of the Court in examining financial matters.
The message from the head of state
Taking note of this oath-taking, President Patrice Talon welcomed a « renewed mark of confidence » in the reappointed president. He urged the Court to intensify its efforts for a more rigorous management of public funds:
“I would urge you to devote more of your energy, your know-how, and your vigilance to enable even more rigorous governance of our public finances,” said President Patrice Talon.
Since its establishment in 2021 as an autonomous jurisdiction, the Court of Auditors has played a central role in Benin’s public-finances oversight framework. Aligned with WAEMU standards, it ensures the verification of public accounts, the adjudication of accountants, and the evaluation of the management of public enterprises.
This renewal marks the continuity of institutional reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the management of public resources, pillars of governance advocated by the Beninese government.
