In a statement made this Saturday, November 1, 2025, the party’s communications officer, Guy Mitokpè, shared with activists and the public the exchanges he had with the party president, Boni Yayi.

According to him, the former head of state wants to reassure the base: Les Démocrates are certainly going through a difficult period, but are by no means in crisis. “The party stands firm and true to its ideals,” Boni Yayi is said to have affirmed, calling on activists to remain calm and steadfast.

Faced with the arguments put forward by the five resigning deputies, the party brusquely dismisses any attempt at justification. Les Démocrates believe these departures are above all driven by “excessive personal ambitions and a lack of solid principles.”

Guy Mitokpè also addressed the draft constitutional revision recently introduced in the National Assembly. The party, he says, completely distances itself from it. “This proposal reflects neither the deep aspirations of the Beninese people nor the requirements of a pluralistic democracy,” he declared.

In his communication, the communications officer urged activists and supporters not to give in to discouragement. Les Démocrates, he says, “will not disappear.” The party intends to overcome its trials and continue its struggle for justice, freedom and democracy.

Guy Mitokpè also called on party members to remain unshakable, even in the face of possible further resignations by senior officials. For him, Les Démocrates must refocus on their founding values and continue to embody the hope of a credible democratic transition in Benin.
