This award, presented by African Leadership Magazine (ALM), highlights career paths that strengthen governance and accelerate development across the continent. The shortlist has attracted significant attention from the African public and underscores growing interest in credible leadership models.

Alongside Patrice Talon are Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, recently re-elected, Cape Verdean President José Maria Neves and Botswana leader Duma Gideon Boko.

These leaders come from different political backgrounds but share a common commitment to the stability, growth and modernization of their countries.

ALM’s editorial committee selected the finalists following a rigorous process of nominations submitted from across the continent and its diaspora. The public can vote until 30 November 2025 on the magazine’s official website.

The winner will be celebrated at the fifteenth edition of the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year (POTY), scheduled in Accra, Ghana, on 27 and 28 February 2026. The event will be held under the theme “Leadership for a new Africa: forging our peace and owning our narrative”.

POTY highlights African leaders and public figures whose actions are transforming governance, the economy and social life. The award isn’t limited to heads of state.

Several categories are planned to distinguish key figures from major sectors. They include African Female Leader of the Year, African Educator of the Year, African Leader for Peace and Security, African Industrialist of the Year, African Philanthropist of the Year, African Young Leader of the Year, African Public Sector Leader, African Champion of Public Health, African Leader in Agricultural Development, African Minister of the Year and African Politician of the Year.

The fifteenth edition will bring together presidents, ministers, business leaders and innovators from across Africa. ALM will thus consolidate its role as a reference platform to showcase initiatives shaping the continent’s future.

This nomination also gives African citizens a chance to get involved directly by public vote, a way to express the expectations of a continent seeking credible leadership, innovation and concrete results.
