Nigerian star, Burna Boy, interrupted his show in Denver to have two audience members removed whom he accused of having fallen asleep. An act that reignited criticism of his methods, which are seen as humiliating toward his audience.
Nigerian singer Burna Boy once again found himself at the center of a heated controversy after having a couple expelled during his concert in Denver (United States) on Wednesday night. The reason: the two spectators reportedly dozed off in the middle of the artist’s performance.
The incident erupted when Burna Boy interrupted his show to call out a man in the front rows, urging him to « bring his girlfriend home » because she had fallen asleep in the middle of the concert. « When I’m on stage and I see you there with your girl sleeping in front of me, it pisses me off. So take her home… Walahi, I won’t perform another song until she’s out », the artist said, mic in hand.
Under pressure from the crowd, which began demanding they leave, the couple — initially reluctant, especially the young woman — eventually left the venue. Burna Boy immediately resumed his performance once the spectators were outside. The scene circulated widely on social networks, reigniting criticism of the singer, accused of publicly humiliating fans who nonetheless held tickets to his concerts.
This is not the first time Burna Boy has made headlines for this type of behavior: he had already sparked outrage by kicking a fan who had climbed onstage to kiss him, and on another occasion had asked a fan to leave the venue because he wasn’t dancing « enough ». Repeated episodes that fuel the idea of an artist quick to eject spectators for reasons considered trivial by part of the public.
