On the Air Metropolitano turf, Diego Simeone’s men struck hard thanks to an own goal by Eric García, before Antoine Griezmann, Ademola Lookman and Julian Alvarez added to the tally. A crushing setback that leaves the Blaugrana in a very delicate position ahead of the return leg.
Beyond the score, the statistic sticks out. According to OptaJose, Barça conceded four goals in the first half for the second time since at least the 2004-05 season. The previous such setback dates back to the Champions League quarter-final in August 2020, during the humiliation suffered against Bayern Munich (2-8). The return leg, scheduled for March, now looks like an almost impossible mission for the Catalan club.
