CAN 2025: Babangida sees Nigeria win the title
For former Nigerian international Tijani Babangida, only a victory in Morocco will erase the disappointment of being knocked out in the play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.

Former Nigerian international Tijani Babangida believes the squad can turn the page on their play-off elimination for the 2026 World Cup by targeting the title at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Beaten by DR Congo in the play-off final, Eric Chelle’s men are still marked by a second consecutive absence from the World Cup.
For Babangida, only a major performance in Morocco will erase that frustration:
“After this sad reality of missing two World Cups in a row, it remains extremely painful to accept,” the former Ajax winger told Tribal Football. “But the next objective is AFCON, which can truly restore the image of Nigerian football.”
The Super Eagles will attempt to claim a fourth continental crown when the competition opens next weekend in Morocco, where they finished as runners-up in the previous edition.
