Benin: Constitutional Court approves new Economic and Social Council rules

​’The Constitutional Court declared all the provisions of the new internal regulations of the Economic and Social Council (CES) to be in conformity with the Basic Law.

The decision (DCC 26-007) was rendered this Thursday, August 27, 2026 following a plenary hearing held at the headquarters of the High Court in Cotonou.

​The Court was contacted by the president of the CES, Abdoulaye Bio Tchané, in order to carry out the obligatory control of the constitutionality of the text, previously adopted by a two-thirds majority by the plenary assembly of the institution on August 20.

​Following the rapporteur’s conclusions, the High Court validated the text in its entirety without reservation. This decision marks a decisive step for the 8th mandate of the CES, allowing the immediate implementation of its new operational framework and the modernization of its internal functioning in line with its organic law.
