Benin – Criet: TikToker Laura released, her fiancé Barnabé sent to prison
Presented on Friday, November 28, 2025, to the Cour de répression des infractions économiques et du terrorisme (Criet), the TikTok couple Laura and Barnabé faced opposite judicial outcomes. The young woman, Laura, was released in the benefit of the doubt, while her fiancé Barnabé was taken to the Cotonou civil prison.

The TikTok couple Laura and Barnabé were brought before the Cour de répression des infractions économiques et du terrorisme on Friday, November 28, 2025. Arrested a week earlier, the two influencers had a high-profile hearing because of their large presence on social media.
According to gathered reports, Laura was released in the benefit of the doubt, the evidence presented against her not allowing sufficiently solid charges to be retained. The TikToker, accused notably of alleged irregularities related to her cosmetics business, therefore left police custody after several days of uncertainty.
Barnabé, on the other hand, did not have the same outcome. The young man was remanded to the Cotonou civil prison, pending the continuation of the proceedings. The charges brought against him have not yet been officially announced, but sources close to the case mention elements more serious than those alleged against Laura.
This judicial decision divides internet users, who have been following the case since Laura’s mother’s live stream on November 23. In it, she revealed that her daughter had to provide documents justifying her business activity.
