Benin: accused of raping his female student, a teacher is being prosecuted before the CRIET
In Llobogo in the Commune of Bopa, a teacher is being prosecuted before the Court for the Repression of Economic Offences and Terrorism for alleged rape of his minor student.

The relationship between the teacher and the young student had been going on for some time, without her parents’ knowledge. It all came to light when the minor began to show signs of pregnancy.
According to reports, the teacher then took the young girl to a health center to try to terminate the pregnancy.
The police intervened while they were there. The man, married and a father, was immediately taken into custody before being transferred to the Criet to answer for the charges against him.
His career now appears compromised, because Law No. 2021-11 of 20 September 2021 concerning the repression of sex-based offences and the protection of women in Benin strictly prohibits any romantic relationship between a teacher and their student, even with consent. The prescribed penalties range from three to five years’ imprisonment, together with a fine of one to five million CFA francs.
