At the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, November 5, it was decided to begin construction of 60 new agropastoral water reservoirs, as well as the rehabilitation of 20 others, in several municipalities across the country.

These water reservoirs are part of the national strategy to develop the country’s hydro-agricultural potential and aim to promote irrigation practices, in a context marked by the effects of climate change.

The government specifies that the technical studies prior to the start of the works will be launched in the coming days, with the support of a consortium of specialized firms to carry out the engineering and monitoring tasks.

This project is of particular importance because it increases farmers’ capacity to adapt to climate variability, boosts agricultural productivity and strengthens long-term food and economic security.

By rallying behind this initiative, the State is showing its determination to support farmers and herders in a changing environment, while preparing the sector to become a real driver of inclusive growth for rural areas.
