Manchester City striker Erling Haaland once again blew the stats through the roof on Wednesday night during the Citizens’ big win over his former club, Borussia Dortmund (4-1), at the Etihad Stadium. The scorer of City’s third goal, the Norwegian notched his 27th goal of the season across all competitions, in just 17 matches played with City and his national team.

This new goal, his fifth in the Champions League this season, brings him closer to the competition’s current top scorer, Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray), who has six goals. But above all, Haaland achieved an unprecedented feat: becoming the first player in history to score in five consecutive Champions League matches with three different clubs (Red Bull Salzbourg, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City).

His teammate Jérémy Doku was quick to praise his performance: “In terms of numbers, Erling is incredible. But he brings far more than goals or assists. He’s a vital player for the team.” A statement that perfectly sums up the Nordic prodigy’s colossal impact under Pep Guardiola.
