Champions League: Gareth Bale takes a dig at Mbappé and Vinicius after Real’s defeat at Liverpool
Former Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale strongly criticized the performances he considered disappointing from the attacking duo, who were unable to make an impact in the defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League.

Former Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale did not mince his words after the Merengues’ 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night at Anfield in the Champions League. Beaten by an Alexis Mac Allister goal in the second half, the Madrid side suffered their first European loss of the season and, unusually, did not register a single shot on target during the match. Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr, expected to be Real’s spearheads, were notably off their game.
Appearing on CBS Sports, Gareth Bale delivered an uncompromising analysis:
“We didn’t see Mbappé or Vinicius make a difference in the final 30 yards to bring Real back into the game. It was disappointing not to see the usual quality from these players,” the Welshman lamented.
The former Madrid player also pointed to a collective problem: “Maybe they make things too complicated. Sometimes you just have to take on the defender. They are faster than everyone else, but without a true number nine in the box, their efforts seem pointless.” A criticism that highlights the lingering doubts surrounding Real Madrid’s attacking unit.
