Benin: Louis Vlavonou praises “the wisdom and republican dignity” of Me Renaud Agbodjo
The President of the National Assembly, Louis Gbèhounou Vlavonou, paid high tribute to Me Renaud Agbodjo, a disqualified candidate of the party Les Démocrates, at the opening of the second ordinary session of the year, on Friday at the Governors’ Palace in Porto-Novo.

In his speech, the president of Parliament praised « the high-mindedness and republican dignity » of Me Agbodjo following the Constitutional Court’s decision invalidating his candidacy. Louis Vlavonou stressed the opponent’s calm stance, which he described as exemplary in the national political context.
« Despite the legitimate disappointment that could have fed resentment or revolt, he chose the path of forgiveness, moderation and peace », the president of the Assembly said. « His passionate appeal to reject all forms of violence and to preserve national harmony must be heard and echoed by each of us, political actors, institutional figures and citizens. »
Louis Vlavonou also recalled that Me Agbodjo’s attitude should serve as an example, placing « love for Benin above partisan ambitions ». According to him, this stance contributes to the consolidation of Beninese democracy and illustrates the political maturity necessary for the country’s stability. A message of unity and restraint that resonates in an often polarized political context, but where the head of the legislature calls for prioritizing peace, harmony and republican dignity.
