United States: Elon Musk launches the “America Party” to break away from the bipartisan system
The founder of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, officially launched a new political party named “America Party” on Saturday, July 5, 2025. The stated goal is to offer an alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties, which he accuses of banding together around governance disconnected from citizen realities.

SUMMARY
On his social network X, Elon Musk announced the creation of the party with a direct message: “Today, the America Party is created to give you back your freedom.” The announcement came after several critical publications regarding the American political system and a recent online poll suggesting the end of the Democratic-Republican duopoly.
A response to the budget law and debt
At the origin of this decision is the adoption of a recently enacted budgetary text, which Musk called an “abominable abomination”. In a series of messages posted on X, he lambasts the increase in the American debt ceiling, which he claims has been raised by 5 trillion dollars, according to his words. For him, this measure is proof of a “single party of spending”, which he accuses of permanently impoverishing the country.
“It is evident, given the staggering expenses of the text, that we live in a country of one party: the party of pigs gorging themselves,” he wrote, adopting a virulent rhetoric against the political establishment.
Born in South Africa, Elon Musk is not eligible for the presidency of the United States, the Constitution requiring that candidates be born on American soil. However, the billionaire could nevertheless play an influential role in the political landscape, like other billionaire figures or activists heading opinion movements.
Since his takeover of Twitter (renamed X), Musk has been increasing political stances, often breaking with the orientations of the two major parties. Long close to Donald Trump, he has recently distanced himself, criticizing the Republicans’ stance on several economic subjects.
It remains to be seen what resonance this new formation will find among the American electorate, in a context marked by the rise of abstention, distrust towards the elites, and the search for new political references.
