Real Madrid midfielder, Jude Bellingham, did not mince his words when asked about Nico Williams’ refusal to join FC Barcelona this summer.
Nico Williams will ultimately not go to Barça. While the Athletic Bilbao winger seemed all set to join the Liga champions, the transfer fell through at the last minute.
The Spanish international, originally attracted by the blaugrana project, reportedly backed down due to uncertainties surrounding the registration of Barça’s recruits for the next season, a recurring problem linked to the Catalan club’s payroll.
Present at a press conference before the Club World Cup quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund, Bellingham was asked about this incident. And the response of the English international was as blunt as it was clear.
“I don’t care,” he said, quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “This is not a concern to Real Madrid, so it doesn’t interest me.”
According to the Spanish press, FC Barcelona would now have definitively given up on the path leading to Nico Williams. The latter has also extended his long-term contract with Athletic Bilbao, his home club, confirming his attachment to the Basque institution.
