Women’s AFCON 2025: Nigeria wants to reign over Africa again

- Publicité-

On the eve of their debut in the 2025 African Women’s Nations Cup, the captain of the Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade, affirmed that Nigeria is ready to go all the way in the competition.

The final phase of the 2025 Women’s African Nations Cup kicks off this Saturday with an inaugural clash between host country Morocco, and Ghana’s Copper Queens, at Casablanca’s Labri Zaouli Stadium.

Nigeria, for its part, will face Tunisia on Sunday, on the same field. This will be the second encounter between the two nations in the history of the Women’s African Nations Cup: the first, in 2008, ended in a goalless draw during the edition held in Equatorial Guinea.

After experiencing their worst continental performance in 2022 — a fourth place — the Super Falcons are eager to reconnect with their glorious past. The team led by Justine Madugu aims for a tenth continental crown, a record in Africa.

Aware of expectations, the captain of the Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade, has shown determination. “We are all thrilled to be here. We know it won’t be easy, but we are ready to give our best”, declared the Atletico Madrid striker during a webinar organized last week by the CAF.

The tone is set. The Super Falcons have only one goal: to reign once again over Africa. For the record, the last edition was won by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
