Extremely appreciated by his teammates for his fighting spirit, goal-scoring ability, and discretion off the pitch, the Portuguese winger for Liverpool, Diogo Jota, was killed in a car accident in Spain on Wednesday night.
The football world is in mourning. Liverpool’s Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota, died last night in a tragic car accident in Spain.
At the age of 28, Jota was travelling with his brother André when the tragedy occurred. Their car is said to have gone off the road on the A-52 motorway, in the province of Zamora, in the north-west of the country. The exact circumstances of the accident are yet to be determined.
This sudden death comes just two weeks after the player’s wedding to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, in Porto.
Having risen to prominence at FC Porto and then Wolverhampton, Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in 2020, where he quickly established himself as one of the key offensive elements of the Reds. He was still part of the squad crowned English champions in May, at the end of Arne Slot’s first season in charge of the club.
