The letter refers to a press release issued in Porto-Novo on April 17, 2025, in which the said individual reportedly publicly expressed opinions deviating from the directives of the Union Progressiste le Renouveau.

The General Secretary recalls that such actions are contrary to the Law no. 2008-23 of September 17, 2018, relating to the Charter of Political Parties in the Republic of Benin, particularly Article 11, paragraph 2, which states that a citizen cannot be a member of more than one political party. This provision becomes particularly pertinent since the Party of Democratic Renewal (PRD), from which Gratien Ahouanmenou still associates himself, was dissolved during its merger with the Union Progressiste to give birth to the Union Progressiste le Renouveau.

The letter also highlights that these stands are in breach of the party statutes, notably Article 41, which requires every member to defend the party and abstain from any behavior or public statement that goes against its directives.

The person concerned is demanded to provide his explanations within 48 hours from the receipt of the correspondence.
