Security Cooperation: Benin and Egypt Strengthen Their Strategic Partnership

During his official visit to Egypt, Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, was received this Wednesday by General Abdel Meguid Saqr, Minister of Defense and Commanding General of the Egyptian Armed Forces.

The meeting focused on strengthening military ties between the two countries against a backdrop of shared concerns related to regional security.

The encounter, which took place in a context marked by persistent tensions in several areas of the continent, allowed both parties to address major strategic issues of the moment. Discussions covered both immediate security challenges and long-term cooperation prospects in the fields of defense and regional stability.

The head of Beninese diplomacy emphasized the importance of continental synergy in facing security challenges, while praising Egypt’s role as a major player in resolving African crises. On the Egyptian side, General Saqr reaffirmed his country’s commitment to bilateral relations with Benin, describing this partnership as “based on mutual trust and common interests.”

He expressed the desire to strengthen mechanisms of military cooperation, focusing on training, intelligence, and technical exchanges.

This meeting is part of a broader diplomatic dynamic initiated by the two capitals, who are multiplying initiatives to build a south-south cooperation axis, both pragmatic and grounded in the realities of the continent.

Also present at the audience, General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, stressed the importance of enhancing African capacities in collective defense.

At the end of the exchanges, the two delegations agreed to maintain regular dialogue and develop operational frameworks to translate this political will into concrete actions on the ground.
