After coaching youth teams at FC Barcelona since retiring in 2017, former goalkeeper Victor Valdés is returning to the professional sidelines. The ex-Spain international has been appointed head coach of Real Ávila, a club competing in Spain’s fourth division.

It’s a new chapter for Valdés, who signed a contract with the Iberian club that runs through 2026. Having gained experience coaching at La Masia, as well as with Escuela de Fútbol Moratalaz and UE Horta, Valdés now takes on the challenge of managing a senior team.

“Real Ávila C.F. announces that Víctor Valdés will be the new head coach of the first team until the end of the current season and for the following campaign. After stepping away from professional football, Valdés has coached in Barça’s youth system, as well as at Escuela de Fútbol Moratalaz and UE Horta. The club wishes him the best in this new chapter, confident that his experience and commitment will be key in achieving our goals,” the club said in a statement shared on its social media platforms.
