In an official statement, Chinese police have disclosed the cause of death of Gabonese striker Aaron Boupendza, who passed away on Wednesday morning.

The cause of Aaron Boupendza’s death is now known. The 28-year-old Gabonese forward died on Wednesday morning. The Zhejiang Professional striker passed away in the hospital after falling from the 11th floor of a building. While several theories—ranging from suicide to involuntary manslaughter—had circulated in the media, Chinese police, who launched an investigation following the incident, have confirmed it was an accident.

“At approximately 1:14 p.m. on April 16, 2025, our office received a public call reporting that someone had fallen from a building in a residential community under our jurisdiction. Our office quickly dispatched police officers to the scene and had the injured individual sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. Later, the individual was pronounced dead after medical efforts proved unsuccessful. The deceased was identified as Aaron Boupendza, a 28-year-old male citizen of the Republic of Gabon and a foreign player for Zhejiang Professional Football Club. Following an on-site inspection, investigation, interviews, video tracing, and other procedures conducted by public security authorities, it was determined that he had fallen fatally from the balcony of his rented residence, and criminal involvement has been ruled out,” the statement read.
